DCC News from Litchfield Station - 27 Jan 10
HALF PRICE DCC:
We have been cleaning the closets here at Litchfield Station and have some demo items for sale in the HALF PRICE DCC SALE category. Also, we are closing out our stock of MRC decoders. MRC has changed their policies, precluding our being able to act as your advocate in the warranty process. All warranty issues MUST go back to MRC now! Since this is not how we would like to run our business, I've decided to sell them out at HALF PRICE. That means a new-in-the-bag MRC decoder for less than our cost! FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED! Check back often, as we will be adding to this as items come up! CLICK HERE
INSTALLATION NOTES:
We have a couple of new HO sound installs, using Tsunami technology:
Life-Like Proto 2000 PA (circa 1995) with the high current motor
Stewart VO-1000
I have finished the conversion of all the installation example pages so that the "clickable" parts lists work with the updated shopping cart.
That's the news for now.
Remember, we appreciate your loyal business and referrals!

The new units will be shipping soon and include an UPGRADE TO 5 AMPS, so need a beefier power supply (the PS515 from Digitrax or MF615 from DCC Specialties). Upgrades are available by sending your unit back to NCE - no official word on the upgrade cost, yet. We still have stock of SB3 units at the old price.

PS515 from Digitrax
in stock - and $5 less expensive!

NCE's GWIRE PRO CAB
NCE has married their highly ergonomic ProCab with the Air Wire 900 radio protocol. Together this fine cab can be used wired to any NCE system. Select the GWire version on the pull down.
SPLIT JAW PRODUCTS
To help out our fans of Gauge 1 (45 mm - G or Fn3), we are continuing to increase our stock of Split Jaw products. They make the premier, in my opinion, clamp for large scale track, as well as innovative expansion joints, rolling stock loaders, etc. CLICK HERE

Late September DCC News from Litchfield Station!
We have items from several areas this time:
Digitrax announced the duplex version of its utility throttle, the UT4D. Deliveries are expected in November. They are available for pre-ordering on our web site. Remember, we ship in the order we receive payment. CLICK HERE!
SoundTraxx announced Tsunami decoders that are LocoSpecific (our term) for the Kato HO diesels, including LocoSpecific LED lighting for ditch lights, etc. We expect delivery in about a month - they are awaiting some parts that are unique to this board. CLICK HERE!

NCE is very close to releasing its SB3a and DB3a boosters for the popular PowerCab series. These units will be about $30 more expensive than their predecessors, as they are designed to work with external auto-reverse and circuit breaker modules. We have stock of the old version at the old price. When the new version is released, we will be returning our stock for upgrade and will only have the more expensive units. CLICK HERE to purchase the older units before they are replaced.

Bits and Pieces from Litchfield Station
Sierra sound board batteriesOne of the reasons SoundTraxx dropped the Sierra product line so quickly was the legal issues surrounding the lead-acid batteries necessary for them to run. Well, that leaves you Sierra users in a bit of a pickle - no batteries to keep your boards running. Well, we have a solution. We are now stocking a small battery holder the will accommodate 4 AA batteries. Stock it with our IMMEDION Rechargeable AA batteries and add a Snap and you have a replacement ready to wire in place of your dead lead-acid battery.
The Athearn HO Turbine LocomotiveOne of the big items on the scene this summer is the release of this loco. It is a mixed blessing - attention to modeling detail with a lot of intricate detail but DCC and sound ready! At this time, the only sound solution is from QSI. We are offering a kit with all you need to do the install. An issue for some folks is the weak light from the included 1.5 volt headlight bulbs. We have changed them out for Surface Mount LEDs with some effort. Most folks thought the results were worth the effort!

Late April Update from Litchfield Station
SPECIAL PURCHASE SPEAKERS:
Litchfield Station has long been a fan of the Intervox S11X16VNS
28 x 40 mm speaker. It is the largest unit that will fit in most HO scale tenders and has wonderful sound. I was offered a special buy on a seemingly identical speaker. These may very well be the ones that our competitors sell INSTEAD of the genuine Intervox part. Anyway, we bought almost 300 of these guys at such a special price that we can sell them for only $4 each! But when they are gone, they are gone! CLICK HERE TO BUY!
To my ear, these bargain speakers sound better in a side-by-side comparison!

Transportation Costs
Have you noticed the price of gas going up? We sure have!
In view of rising transportation costs, we have evaluated our shipping policies.
Inside the USA we are making a change - just a small one! We are giving you over a month's notice!
Effective October 1, 2008, our minimum order for free shipping in the USA will go from $50 to $75. Our rates will remain the same for now on orders below the cutoff:
- $4 for First Class Mail
- $6 for Priority Mail
All of our shipments are insured, either by us or by a third party.
Outside the USA, we are okay, as we have been working on our model for years and have it pretty well fine tuned.

SoundTraxx Production
Many of you have been calling and eMailing to ask about Coming Ins from SoundTraxx. (Here at Litchfield Station, we prefer to refer to them that way, as opposed to Back Orders which has such a negative feel to it.)

It now seems to Bruce that they will have the pipeline full sometime in October. Yes 2007!
We have planned for this downtime and have a lot of their line in stock. If you have something in Coming In status we hope to fill your order in the next few weeks.

Web Hosting transfer - STORE WILL BE CLOSED
We will be migrating away from GoDaddy as a web site host.
To make this less abrupt than what happened a month ago when GoDaddy killed our web site for 48 hours without notice, we have a PLAN!
Sometime in the next few days (target Monday 5/7) the store will be closed for 24 to 48 hours. The goal of this exercise is to capture all the orders up to the relocation and then reopen on the new server without loosing any orders.
We cannot guarantee that some eMail won't get lost in the transition. If you eMail us and don't get an answer in a timely manner, please try again or phone us.
By mid week we should be back up and functional in our new cyber-digs!
Normal phone hours will continue during the transition (9-5 M-F; 9-12 Sat - West Coast Time) and you can always order by phone!

HOn3 K-27s are starting to arrive
Blackstone Models has gotten a few locos in from China. Less than a dozen have made their way to Litchfield Station. Blackstone is shipping to dealers in the sequence that we ordered them. As we receive locos, we ship to our customers, on a first-paid, first-shipped basis as usual.
The remainder will be shipping soon from China and will probably not make their way to customers until June.
If you were an early purchaser from Litchfield Station, you MAY have already seen an eMail that we were shipping to you. If you ordered since 1/1/07, I don't believe you will be receiving your loco with this bunch. We didn't receive all the different models we ordered for our customers, so the coverage is very sporadic. Bruce ordered a Post-Wreck #455 for himself in September and we haven't gotten that. Patience is rewarded in this venture!
We are searching our records to confirm this, but we MAY have gotten two locos that we have no customer demand for. We have one each #461 in Rio Grand Southern (
B310125) and D&RG (
B310124) decoration. If you are interested in either of these locos, eMail Sales@LitchfieldStation.com Once we determine these to be excess, they will be available to the first person to request them.

Back from the FORBIDDEN zone
If you tried to access the Litchfield Station web site between 11 am on April 10 and about 10 am on April 12 (West Coast Time) you wound up in the FORBIDDEN Zone - you got a strange page with a FORBIDDEN error.
GoDaddy is our hosting provider. They decided that twice in March we exceeded our Instantaneous Bandwidth limits and PULLED THE PLUG on our site. They cannot prove that we did or did not do anything wrong.
We are back on GoDaddy, for now. We are looking for another provider and may be moving the site in the future. If we move it, there may be a period where our site is unavailable again. We hope to PLAN this outage and let folks know in advance!
We have been getting eMail during the outage, but may not have gotten all. If you don't get an answer to an eMail you sent, please resend it!
Ah, growing pains! Now, back to the FUN . . .

Programming Track Interface Units
Programming Track Interface Units
I prefer to call these Programming Track Interface units, as they are not REALLY boosters. What they do is temper the load of sound equipped locos so as to not overload the programming track output of DCC sets and add some intelligence to the short detection logic of the command station. In other words, they work the agreement between the command station and the decoder to keep both happy.
They may be left in line for all decoders, although they are necessary for proper operation with many sound decoders (QSI and Tsunami and DSX with "keep alive" capacitors) when used with most command stations.
The most popular at Litchfield Station is the
PTB-100 (part number 829002) from SoundTraxx. They have had some production challenges with this unit and it has been back ordered since last fall. GOOD NEWS - they all came in yesterday. The back orders have been shipped and the shelf is stocked!
An other solution is the PowerPax from DCC Specialties. This unit is normally in stock at Litchfield Station. A run on them, absent the PTB-100, has us currently in a back-order status, but I expect that to end soon.

SoundTraxx DSD LC line
The long await arrival of DSD090-LC and some DSD100LC decoders from SoundTraxx has happened. We currently have stock on all the following part numbers, which have been delayed due to parts issues:
820060
820061
820062
821101
821102
821103
821200
821210
821220
821230
821240
821250
Now for the bad news - continuing parts challenges have led SoundTraxx to discontinue these parts. What we have in stock at Litchfield Station is all we are going to get. There are no available replacements from SoundTraxx.
If you have a project planned using one of these decoders, you best order now to avoid disapointment - stock currently ranges from 4 pieces to 1 piece!

Holiday News
It's the last minute for 2006 holiday gifts. Here is what's happening at Litchfield Station.
We believe that Monday night 12/18 is the latest that you can order and still get something delivered before Christmas.
NCE: The PowerCab
is probably the hottest item in DCC this season. We still have a few in stock and we have more being air lifted to us. We were sold out of PowerHouse Pro 5 amp radio sets, but got more stock on Friday.
All books and videos are in stock and available for immediate shipment - we just got the DCC Guide book back in stock!
The SLEEPER gift this season is the Fantasonics Scale Magic CD scenes. The anxiously awaited
Four Corners CD sets the mood (dawn, day, dusk, night) for any layout set in the southwestern part of the USA. Dream Players are in stock.
We are fully stocked in
Tsunami decoders for that steam fan. Alas, Programming Track Boosters will be in short supply for the rest of the year.

Blackstone Models News
K-27 SHIPPING DELAYED
The manufacturer in China has been having an issue getting motors of adequate quality to satisfy Balckstone. Rather than settle for inferior performance, the decision has been to push the motor vendor to do better. There is a whole room in China full of loco parts just waiting for motors. In order to ship some units, the good motors have been put into a few models and air-freighted to the US. Limited quantities of three NON-TSUNAMI models will be shipping this week. Since all Litchfield Station orders are for sound units, we will not see any of these. The remainder are planned to be "on the water" by the end of the year. Giving 30 days for container freight to be delivered, that says that you should be seeing your Mud Hen in February.
PRICE INCREASE
We knew that it was too good to be true - a model of this caliber for this sort of price! Well, it is changing. The current prices will hold for orders placed with Litchfield Station through Christmas (12/25). After that time the prices on the K-27 locos and the box and stock cars are going up about 25%! Place you orders now on these fine locos!
WEATHERED POST-WRECK RGS 455 SOLD OUT
The limited run of pre-weathered B310131W and B310131W-S locos has been sold out. The unweathered version is still available.

SB3 Smart Boosters arrive
The long awaited NCE SmartBoosters (SB3) for the PowerCabs are starting to arrive at Litchfield Station. CLICK HERE for more information.
They will be shipping to folks who have had them on order and are patiently waiting for them, in the sequence that they were ordered from us. I expect it will take a few weeks for the supply situation to stabilize.
With your PowerCab and a SmartBooster, you can unplug the PowerCab and move around the layout, just like any throttle!
The SmartBooster and PowerCab combination allows control of 29 functions up to F28!
There were several itterations of price on this unit from the time it was announced until now. The final price is US$ 99.95 MSRP. Litchfield Station's price is the minimum advertised price of US$ 77.96! If you ordered one at a lower price, we are sorry for the increase, but we have no choice!

Automatic Programming Track Switch
GOOD NEWS for NCE and Digitrax users!
Since NCE introduced the PowerCab earlier this year, one of the major complaints is that it only has one track output. This means that your "layout" becomes the programming track when you go into "Use Program Trk" mode.
Now NCE has released the Automatic Programming Track Switch, AutoSW.
CLICK HERE for more information. This simple board connects between your PowerCab and your layout and the isolated programming track. When you go into Programming Track mode, the main layout is disconnected and only the programming track is active. When Programming on the Main, the entire layout is active.
THIS IS REALLY GOOD NEWS for some Digitrax owners. NCE says that the AutoSW will work with DB100 and DB150 command station / boosters as used in the Super Empire Builder, Empire Builder, Big Boy or Challenger sets!

Layout Sound
The excitement of sound brings your layout to life.
It can be as simple as adding a "boom box" and a CD, or as elaborate as you wish.
Model Railroader featured the concept in its August 2006 issue (pp 36 - 39). All but the items for Option 1 from that article are available at Litchfield Station - the ONLY dealer in the USA who can make that claim.
Move your pike forward this week by checking out the LAYOUT | SOUND category
